Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has refuted allegations that he and other PDP governors are flying to Europe to choose the party's presidential and vice-presidential candidates for 2023.

The governor has accused those behind the rumors of deliberately sowing discord to undermine the PDPs s chances in the 2023 election.

Wike said in a statement in Port Harcourt yesterday that his media aide Kelvin Ebiri said that Raymond Dokpesi, the party's leader, circulated a text message afterward. PDP governors have been bombarded with calls, prompting some to travel to Europe for a week to determine the party's presidential and vice-presidential candidates for 2023.

" I have always said to the people in the PDP that no one should be dividing the governors. We are doing our best to rebuild the party and make sure that the PDP takes over governance in 2023.

As he said Nobody is traveling to Europe for anything

However, I suspect that people like Raymond Dokpesi have no problem with the party. Sincerely, I believe Dokpesi is employed by APC."

He went on to say: "I'm not sure where Raymond Dokpesi obtained the information regarding governors flying to Europe to decide on the PDP's presidential and vice presidential candidates. Why would governors come to Europe to make such a choice, I wonder?

The governor said that while he and his colleagues had no problem with Dokpesi s s 2019 PDP presidential bid and Nigeria' s s former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, he should be careful not to cause chaos in the party.

" I have already told Raymond Dokpesi that you have no problem preaching for the candidate of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Waziri of Adamawa, he is a very experienced man, a smart man, a strategist. But don' t be fooled by that. Destroy others. Because destroying them will make it impossible for the PDP to win the election in 2023.

The Rivers state governor pleaded with Atiku, whom he characterized as a powerful political strategist, to stop Dokpesi from propagating hazardous misinformation that might polarize party members.

Wike noted that in 2019, the PDP governor rallied around Atiku without Dokpesi' s s push and if he chooses. the party' s presidential candidate, they will do so again.

Wike also dismissed suggestions that PDP governors, particularly Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde, want to usurp the National Jobs Council function to impose the party' s candidates on Osun.

He noted that Makinde is the sole PDP governor in the South West geopolitical region, and that he should be consulted about the approaching governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti.

Wake said it would be politically wrong to let someone outside the geopolitical zone of the Southwest decide what happens in Osun without the contribution of the governor of Oyo.
